McGarrett has returned to the islands to aid his friends against Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos) and his empire. Dr. Mark Bellick (Donald Faison) assists McGarrett in his investigation. The character of Samuel L. "Lono" Kalakaua (played by Scott Caan) appears in this season, following a two-year absence from the series. He has been away to college and being a missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, who have a strong presence in Hawaii, having built a temple.
